Share your research integrity experiences with Crossref and STM

As we approach the end of 2026, research integrity remains a critical focus for the scholarly publishing ecosystem: fast technological advancements are constantly pushing the boundaries of integrity, impacting how everyone in this space interacts with the scholarly record.

To better support our members in protecting the integrity of the scholarly record (ISR) in the face of these changes and challenges, we established an ISR advisory group, we’re planning to roll out our new Member Practices, talked to subject matter experts, tested integrity tools, and now, we want to fully understand the impact of research integrity issues on our membership.

We’re launching a new survey for all our members, in partnership with STM, to help us identify the key integrity challenges our community is facing. The questions touch on types of issues our members are seeing, and practicalities of their impact on our members’ workflows and processes. Your participation will help us identify key integrity challenges, and guide the next steps in the ISR program, including potential collaborations with STM and their integrity solutions.

Here’s what you need to know about the survey:

  • Survey links have been sent to each member’s primary contact: check your email inbox, where you’ll find an email from us with a link to participate (if not, please contact us!)
  • The survey should be completed by the person in your organisation that is the key expert on research integrity – whether it’s the recipient or another colleague;
  • The survey will be open until the 15th of November;
  • For a better experience, we recommend filling out the survey using a computer instead of a mobile device.

Research integrity is a complex topic, and within our vast membership, we are aware that it manifests differently across diverse subject areas, organisation size, and geography.

The only way to deeply understand these differences and nuances is through active member participation: the more you share with us, the better we will be able to understand your specific needs and explore how we can support them.

Towards the end of the year, we plan to follow up and share our learnings from the survey, so that the community can learn from our findings. We will also share these learnings as part of STM’s Research Integrity Day, on the 9th of December. Until then, we hope you’ll be able to share your research integrity experiences and challenges with us, and support us in protecting the foundations of the scholarly record.

If you have any questions about the survey, or would like to share more feedback, please contact me directly, or email our feedback inbox. We look forward to seeing your responses soon!
